PATRIOTIC AGLAN SWEATER

Materials:          Erdal Yarns, Ltd. “Laser”, Colors:  Red 4600-2 skeins; Blue 369-2 skeins and white-2 skeins

Size 6, 7 and 8 knitting needles

Tapestry needle

Size Medium

Back

With red yarn and size 6 needles, cast on 97 sts.

Ribbing: Row 1, P l, K l, continue to end of row.  Row 2, K 1, P 1, continue to end of row

Rep rows 1 and 2 twice.

With size 8 needles K one row.

With white P one row, K one row for 6 rows.

With red, P 2 rows, * K one row, P one row, Rep from * once, K one row.

With white, *K one row, P one row, Rep from * twice.

Rep the last 12 rows until back measures 12 inches.

Raglan Armholes

With red, continue stripe pattern, work 4 rows even.

Bind off first 4 sts, work to within last 4 sts, bind off last 4 sts.  Fasten off.  (89 sts)

Next row:  P one row.

Next row:  With white, K 4 sts, sl l, k 1, psso, work to last 6 sts, k 2 tog, work last 4 sts.  (dec 2 sts)

Working in stripes, rep last two rows 26 times.  NOTE:  Fasten off and change to blue after the 7th red stripe.

Work stockinette st and decreases until there are 25 sts remaining.  Place sts on st holder.

Front

Rep instructions for back through last red stripe.

With blue, work in stockinette st with decreases until front measures 5 inches from red stripe.

Divide for neck opening.

Left Front

Continue with raglan dec at armhole edge.  Place 24 sts on st holder.

Continue in pattern until piece measures the same as back.  (20 sts)  Bind off as if to knit.

Right Front

Place the 24 sts on size 8 needles, continue pattern as for left front. 

Left Sleeve

With red and size 6 needles, cast on 53 sts.  Work K 1, P 1 ribbing for 1 inch (6 rows)

With white and  size 8 needles, stockinette st for 4 rows.

With blue, K 8, inc 1 st in next st, K to within last 10 st, inc 1 st, K to end of row.

Working in stockinette st, inc 1 st every 7th row 4 times (63 sts), every 6th row 7 times and every 4th row 1 time (79 sts)

Work even in stockinette st until piece measures 15 inches from beginning.

P one row.

K 8, inc 1 st, K to within last 10 st, inc 1 st, K to end of row. (81 sts)

Shape Raglan

Work the same as Back armhole (13 sts)  Bind off.

Right Sleeve

Rep as for left sleeve.

Assembly

With right sides facing, using tapestry needle and matching yarn, sew raglan sleeves to front and back.  Sew side seams from sleeve ribbing to bottom of sweater ribbing.

Pick up and knit 105 sts around neck.  Work in stockinette st until collar measures 2 inches.

With white, P 2 rows, K 1 row, P 1 row.

With red, P 2 rows, K 1 row, P 1 row.  Bind off.

With blue, pick up and k 19 sts on divided right neck front.  P 1 row.

With white, P 2 rows (pick up the white sts and P) (23 sts)

With red, P 2 two rows (pick up red sts and P)  (26 sts)  Bind off as if to k.

With wrong side facing, with blue, pick up and K 19 sts on divided left neck front..  K next row.

With white, K one row and pick up and K 3 white sts.  K next row.

With red, K one row, and pick up 3 red sts and K.  K one row.  Bind off.

Weave in yarn ends.

Using red yarn tack the center front of collar to sweater.

Steam press.
